Sunday: First Week of Lent

Moses spoke to the people saying:
The priest shall receive the basket from you
and shall set it in front of the altar of the Lord, your God.
Then you shall declare before the Lord, your God,

"...When the Egyptians maltreated and oppressed us,
imposing hard labor upon us,
we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers,
and he heard our cry…"
 Deuteronomy 26: 4

When the priest says, “Lift up your hearts,” it is an invitation….The congregation is encouraged to bring before the good and loving God whatever at the specific time may be in their hearts.  Whether it is sadness, joy, worry, gratitude or any other concern, all that is in their hearts can be lifted to God."

For Reflection:
When has the Lord heard your cry?

What is currently in your heart that you want to “declare before the Lord,” or “lift up to the Lord?”

  2. God graces us daily if we open our eyes to those blessings we can embrace them in our heart.

  3. I think we have all been lifting our hearts to God, especially these last 9 months. I would like to declare before the Lord thankfulness forthe gift of all my new friends and renewed friends, all because of Fr. Lenny

  4. I always try to be conscious of "Lift up your hearts" at Mass because I know that was a favorite part of the Mass for Fr. Lenny...but I sometimes miss it because my mind wanders. I was very conscious of those words at Mass today and lifted up my heart, filled with all of Fr. Lenny's former parishioners and friends...and, as the day has gone on, I've been lifting up, also, all the needs of our heartsick world.

    1. For some reason that always stuck with me too - that this was Lenny's favorite part of the Mass. And every time I hear it - I think of him saying it. It always makes me smile - so whatever I might have planned to lift up changes into just a smile - which I suppose is enough.
