Monday: First Week of Lent

He brought us out of Egypt
with his strong hand and outstretched arm….
He gave us this land flowing with milk and honey.
Therefore I have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil
which you, O Lord, have given me.
Deuteronomy 26:10

For Christian people, during hard, painful or miserable times of life, it is often amazing how the God who has called will bless the work of the heart and hands, even when that individual feels like he or she has little or nothing to offer.

For Reflection:
Have you, or someone you know or have read about, experienced how God blesses the work of your heart and hands during the hard times of life?

  1. When our heart is conscious of the ways we can bring God's love into our work, we are blessed. We must open the eyes of our hearts to see His love.

    1. Being conscious is the hardest part - isn't it? It is for me. Sometimes I feel chronically distracted....

  2. Every day I see families during the hardest, most painful and frightening time of their lives. They are paralyzed with worry, but somehow manage to push beyond that fear and empower themselves to find ways to get the best possible medical care for their very sick children. That I can somehow help them with that simply by listening to their stories and playing with their questions on my computer always surprises me. I don't think it comes from me. I think it is a gift that they let me in, and allow me to witness their suffering. God must take it from there.

  3. Having been on the other side of the librarian's desk at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, when my grandson was there for his second palate surgery, I can tell you that it is very consoling and empowering to have professionals like you -- and the doctors, nurses and therapists -- to guide families trying to get the best care for their kids. I thank God for you all! It kind of amazes me that people in the medical profession see hurting people all the time and most that we've worked with don't take it nonchalantly. So many are really attuned to the pain of the patients and families.

    1. When I see people suffering it helps open my eyes and my heart to empathize with them and try to comfort them in any way I can ( hold a hand, reposition them, give a hug...)It reminds me to thank God every day.

  4. When I went through spiritual direction with Fr Lenny, he helped me build a timeline of difficult painful times in my life. From there I looked at who I was after going through each of those tough situations. And without fail, every difficult situation brought me to a better place. Every difficult situation made me stronger, happier and closer to God.
