The devil said to him,
“I shall give to you all this power and glory;
for it has been handed over to me,
and I may give it to whomever I wish.
All this will be yours, if you worship me.”
Jesus said to him in reply,
“It is written:
You shall worship the Lord, your God,
and him alone shall you serve.”

Luke 4: 6-8
People of faith from all religious traditions and people of good will who do not have a faith perspective all need to come together in a sincere desire and concerted effort to make this world a better place….To respect the beauty of all creation and in particular the high point of creation: human beings.

For Reflection:
Jesus counters the devil’s focus on power and glory with his own priority: worship and service of God.
In what concrete ways are people today serving God by making this world a better place?
In what concrete ways are people today serving God by making this world a better place?
How might you/we do this in a special way during Lent?
After reflecting on what people are doing to make the world a better place, 2 issues came to my mind and they are issues that Pope Francis is speaking out strongly about: global climate change and global migration. I'm trying to respond to both of those in whatever ways I can through prayer, action, and activity. Currently the Cleveland Children's Coalition, to which I belong, is supporting our chairperson, Kate Uhlir, who has taken a Salvadoran mother with a newborn, and an older son, into her home until they are permitted to go live with a cousin in New Jersey. Here is Kate's announcement:
ReplyDeleteFriday afternoon Veronica Dahlberg called me with an "emergency situation". She needed a place for a mother, her newborn and 10-year-old son TOMORROW. Did I know of a place?????
Well, I've had two empty bedrooms since my kids moved out. Occasionally, a few grandkids come for a visit; but, the bedrooms have been empty - EXCEPT for a three-year-old layer of crud and other stuff (which I just don't look at too much! You know, "out of sight - out of mind!)
So, I told Veronica to bring the family to my "inn". But, I had to clean; at least the first layer of crud! There was going to be A NEW BABY, so... bleach, rags, the vacuum, garbage bags and the mess became my focus. I used three major "highways" for the crud; the disposal, the garbage bags and the basement steps. (Out of sight - out of mind, again.)
Nice job on the reflection Marie
