Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His
love is everlasting.
Let the house of Israel say, His mercy endures
forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say, “His mercy endures
forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say, “His mercy
endures forever.”
Psalm 118
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples
rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he
breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you
forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”
John 20:19-22
Jesus’s healing ministry was intended to open
people’s eyes, ears, and hearts to recognize that in him God’s healing power
was present.

We can never say, “I love you” to God. We can
only say, “I love you, too.” This is because, from our first moment of life,
God has tenderly whispered to each of us, over and over, “I love you. I love
you.”

Notes ~ 1999
Throughout
this Year of Mercy, let us reach out to Our God to receive an abundance of
mercy. Let us place our complete trust in Our Lord’s constant and abiding
presence, in our hearts and in each other. Are we ready to pour out mercy on
our sisters and brothers? Let us be merciful, as our heavenly Father is
merciful.
