Remember not the events of the past,
the things of long ago consider not;
see, I am doing something new!
Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
In the desert I make a way,
in the wasteland, rivers...
I put water in the desert
and rivers in the wasteland
for my chosen people to drink.
Isaiah 43: 18,20
Rather than seeing Lent as a penitential season, think of it as a time to focus on some dimension of spiritual renewal/growth….turn to God in praise, joining with chirping birds and blooming flowers in a creaturely response to the Creator God.

For Reflection:
If you were a St. Louis parishioner, do you remember the Lent when St. Louis Church was fragrant with flowers? How did that affect your attitude toward Lent?
One that demands solitutude. Working out in the yard yesterday and soaking up Spring in all its newness helps to create a new Spirit within me.
ReplyDeleteDear blog readers, If you did not hear these blog Scriptures at Mass this weekend, it is because the blog is using this Lent's Cyle C readings. When there is an RCIA ceremony at Mass for those preparing for Baptism, the Cycle A readings are used, instead, on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded that the word "Lent" actually means "springtime," so the Church's focus is on new life and growth. Just as the flowers in church during Lent that year lifted my spirits, so is this blog lifting my spirits this year and giving a more positive focus to my Lent.
